Ginger Snaps/Killer Klowns from Outer Space

Yes, my friends. It is a double feature. I think most horror films need to seen in pairs. Granted, these two don't really fit together, but we needed something silly to soften the blow of the potentially scary first film. Anyway, here is what you need to know...

When: Sunday, August 14th at 6:15pm
Where: Jen's Place
RSVP: To Matt via email
Film #1: Ginger Snaps (2000) [Amazon.com Description]
Film #2: Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988) [Amazon.com Description]

Revolutionary Girl Utena

Anime, or Japanese animation, is the name of the game this week. Our dearest
Fiona chose this one and I trust her taste, especially since my knowledge of
anime is weak, at best. Have you guys heard of Akira? It's pretty underground,
apparently. Anyway, if you want to give anime a shot or if you like huge,
animated pupils then I'll see you on Friday.

When: Friday, May 27th at 7pm
Where: Jen's Place
RSVP: To Matt via email
Film: Revolutionary Girl Utena (1999) [Amazon.com Description]

Candy

Internally, I'm going to start referring to this movie as Candy: The Night That Never Was. Truth is, we tried to screen this two months ago and my DVD player broke. Sorry Megan, I know it took months for you to choose this movie. We're making up for it by giving it another go. This time, I've got a backup plan in case things go awry.

Candy is erotic satire, apparently. It was adopted from Terry Southern's novel, which is based on Voltaire's Candide. The book was a much greater success than the film, which is fine by me as I prefer my erotic satire to be accompanied by a thumpin' soundtrack. And now, here are the deets.

Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!

Finally, Cinema Ahh*Some is back. We took a little siesta over the last couple months, but we've returned with renewed vigor. Before I introduce this week's film, I wanted to tell you that we're moving our get-togethers to Fridays. It seems as though it might provide a better turn out. If that doesn't work, then we might give Sunday a shot. We'll play it by ear.

Now, the film we'll be watching is Pedro Almodovar's Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!  After seeing Bad Education and loving it, I decided to dip into his back catalogue. So, if you are a fan of any of his other movies, or haven't seen this one in years, you'll be in for a treat (I think).  Here are all the details.

When: Friday, January 15th at 7pm (movie at 7:30)
Where: Matt's Place
RSVP: To Matt via email
Film: Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! (1990) [Allmovie.com Description]

Keep in mind, if you are interested in coming but you haven't been before, you should sign up for our email list, which gives more information (like addresses and contact info). Or, you can just contact us for more info.

Bye Bye Birdie

Movie Change!

Yes, it's true. We had to change the movie since the movie-picker can't make it. Instead, we'll be watching Bye Bye Birdie. It's still considered a classic, but it's from a different era (1951 versus 1963 -- very different in movie time).

The time and the place (7:30, Jen's house) have not changed.

Also, as a result of a suggestion from Fiona, I think that we will soon have a Cinema Ahh*Some field trip. It's definitely time we go out to the movies.

Plan 9 From Outer Space

Woo! The first film to grace the new Cinema Ahh*Some site. This is prolly Ed Wood's most notorious film. It is, without a doubt, horrible and many consider it to be the worst film of all time. But that's what makes it charming. I figured we should watch this film in honor of the release of Ed Wood's only porn film, Necromania. It's being released by Fleshbot Films, a weblog cum movie distributor, apparently.

When: Thursday, November 4th at 7pm
Where: Matt's Place
RSVP: To Matt via email
Film: Plan 9 From Outer Space (1959) [Allmovie.com description]

Don't forget, if you can't make it you can watch it on your own and then blog about it right here! Isn't that amazing?!?
